about

This spring, March 10th, T. Nguyen’s follow up entitled “Unknowable,” dives to the realms of the non physical. The EP includes three new tracks and their radio edits with driving basslines, garage shuffles that mirror DJ Zinc’s self proclaimed genre “crack” house, kick drum patterns from the UK Funky scene and various samples dug deep from the 2000’s garage days.

Fourth State kicks the EP into a euphoric five note mind trance like arp and chorded synth stabs to introduce the listener to a low arpeggiated bassline. Setting the background for what is to follow, this groove builds slowly and doesn’t drop until three and a half minutes into the track but has high energy mids and highs throughout. The fourth state is the background in which all the other states; waking, sleeping and dreamless are imposed upon and can be sometimes found lost at peak hour on a basement dance floor at six am.

The second track on the EP, Take Me Up starts with a thick kick drum, chords and hats to drop into a classic garage shuffle that keeps the energy up. The feminine vocal contrast with the heavy driving bassline keeps the dancefloor interested and lost between the sounds. Take Me Up takes influences from DJ Zinc’s crack house days and continues the 4x4 drive of garage music similar to early DND, Mike Delinquent or DJ Narrows. Take Me Up is about taking refuge above.

A play on Funky music, the third track Maya, reminds some of the early tracks from Oliver Heldens with a fresh touch of organ sounds and drum riddims. The skippy bouncy bassline drives the song all the way through with the catchy drum shuffles gently behind. The song starts with a bassline melody unknowing of its resolution until its second breakdown; touching upon how illusory reality can relatively be at the time of experience.

Each track has a short edit to accomadate radio play.

T. Nguyen New York, New York

T. Nguyen’s palette and analog process through Tascam boards, Roland delays, and a Teac reel to reel tape machine removes the music out of the digital space into a tangible physical reality. His music captures to confront the listener with their own process of being, through low-end frequencies, found samples, and swung dance loops. ... more
